Elderly voters to be felicitated today

Bhopal: More than seven lakh voters aged above 80 years across the state will be felicitated by the election commission on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons celebrated on October 1.There are a total of around 7.12 lakh voters who are aged above 80 years in Madhya Pradesh including more than 5,000 voters aged above 100 years.The event will be held at RCVP Noronha Academy of administration in state capital in the presence of former chief election commissioner O P Rawat and senior electoral officers of the state.Office of the chief electoral officer, Madhya Pradesh, has also instructed all the district election officers for felicitation of the elderly voters. However it has also been instructed that care should be taken so that the elderly voters do not face any inconvenience, only those who are able to come should be called for the event, those who are not able to come should be felicitated at their homes.Among the districts having highest number of voters aged above 100 years it is Sehore district which is home to around 318 voters aged above 100 years, followed by Ujjain which has 316 such voters and then Rewa which has 260 voters aged above 100 years. Interestingly it is women who outnumber the men when it comes to voters aged above 100 years: Out of 5,253 voters aged above 100 years, as many as 3,761 are women and only 1,492 are men.The election commission has also made provision of allowing senior citizens and persons with disabilities to opt for voting from their home. If they feel so, they could fill form 12D of EC within five days of the nominations. The court-appointed special master emphasized that all three proposals adhere to the courts directive. A three-judge panel is overseeing the redistricting process and has scheduled a hearing to evaluate the proposed plans. The state of Alabama has appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.Voter registration programme for teachers constituency startsRadhakrishna Game, the returning officer for the Nashik division Teachers constituency MLC elections, has announced the commencement of the voters enrolment program. Teachers are required to fill out Form 19 for registration, as the old form has been cancelled. The registration period is from September 30 to November 6, 2023. The election commission has appointed 118 officers for this purpose. The new form also includes an optional space for the Aadhaar number.
