Ensure benefits of development works to citizens: Vijayvargiya

Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has instructed the departmental officers to get its field staff to conduct a study on the benefits of the development works done under AMRUT Mission 1.0 in water supply, sewerage, urban transport, parks and storm water provided to the citizens of urban areas. The report will be reviewed in the upcoming meeting. He told to ensure 100 percent utilization of the funds received from the Center. Minister Vijayvargiya was addressing the departmental officers in the meeting held in Mantralaya today. Principal Secretary Urban Development Neeraj Mandloi and Commissioner Urban Development Bharat Yadav were also present in the meeting. Minister Vijayvargiya told officials that the works related to drinking water in the urban areas should be completed on time ensuring full quality in the stipulated time frame in view of the upcoming summer season. It was informed in the meeting that an amount of about Rs 6,801 crore was approved for 215 projects in AMRUT-1.0 out of which about Rs 4,353 crore has been spent on 199 projects. Water supply schemes are being operated in Indore and Dabra. Sewerage schemes are going on in Sagar, Guna, Datia, Katni, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Rewa, Satna, Singrauli and Ratlam. Under urban transport, 20 companies have been formed and 1525 buses are being operated. It was informed in the meeting that AMRUT-2.0 mission has been started in 413 urban bodies from October 1, 2021. Work will be carried out under the mission till March 2027. An amount of about Rs 12 thousand 860 crore is being spent in the mission. Minister Vijayvargiya directed that concrete efforts should be made to get the funds received from the Center in the mission. Sewerage, drinking water, water infrastructure upgradation and park development works are being done in Mission AMRUT-2.0. Metro primary corridor will start by September-2024 Urban Administration Minister Vijayvargiya reviewed the Bhopal-Indore projects today. He said that the work of Metro project should be done by making a time frame. It was told in the meeting that the services to the citizens in the primary corridor of Bhopal-Indore Metro will start from September-2024. He said that a plan for expansion of metro service should be prepared keeping in mind the reduction in population density in Indore and Bhopal cities. An amount of about Rs 7 thousand crore will be spent on the 27.87 kilometer long metro in Bhopal. Work on Indore Metro corridor of 31.55 kilometers is in progress with an estimated expenditure of Rs 7501 crore. Both these projects will be completed by December-2026.
