Government and private hospitals and nursing homes built in all the urban bodies of the state will be inspected. In view of the incidents of fire during the scorching heat, the Urban Development and Housing Department has asked the collectors and urban body heads of all the districts to get the fire safety of hospitals and nursing homes investigated and reports submitted. Last month, the Principal Secretary of the Health Department had written a letter to Urban Development regarding this, and had asked to take the report of fire safety audit in view of the incidents of arson occurring in summer. In the instructions issued by the Commissioner Urban Development, it has been said that the hospitals and nursing homes run in rural areas, Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Municipal Council should be investigated and the report should be sent within 15 days and the provisions of the Election Code of Conduct should also be kept in mind. If fire safety standards are not being followed somewhere, then action should be taken as per rules and fire safety arrangements should be made. According to sources, proposals have also been sought for cancellation of registration if rules are not followed. Whether Nursing Homes and Hospitals have its NOC along with the report of Fire Safety Audit under National Building Code. Whether all relevant fire protection systems in the building are operational. It will also be seen whether regular maintenance and testing of fire safety equipment is done or not. Whether the work of briefing the doctors and training the staff regarding fire safety has been done or not. There is no storage for combustibles and battery banks in the basement. Whether or not there are proper exit routes in case of emergency. Fire mock drills may or may not take place from time to time. Input and output of electrical load balance and whether there is audit of electrical load balance. There are no multi plugs or overloading power sources in the building.
