Habibganj Police bust jewelry thieves gang

  • | Tuesday | 13th May, 2025

In a significant breakthrough, the Habibganj Police Station has successfully apprehended a gang of thieves responsible for stealing valuable items from local jewelry shops. The criminals, who had been posing as legitimate customers, were caught following swift police action and a detailed investigation. The thieves employed a clever strategy, visiting jewelry stores under the pretense of being interested buyers, and discreetly stealing items during their visits. Their activities came to light on May 8, 2025, when Meenal Agarwal, the owner of a jewelry shop in Arera Colony, reported the theft of gold jewelry worth approximately Rs 70,000. The stolen items included two pairs of gold earrings weighing 2.60 grams and mangalsutra beads weighing 5 grams. Habibganj police thoroughly reviewed CCTV footage from the shop, which clearly captured the theft in progress. This footage became crucial in identifying and tracking down the suspects. Police traced their movements from Rani Kamlapati Railway Station to No. 12 Market. When the officers approached the area, two suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. The arrested individuals, identified as Babita Jatav (36) and Yogendra Khare (27), initially denied any involvement but confessed when confronted with the video evidence. Further investigation revealed that both suspects had prior criminal records. Babita Jatav, a resident of Gwalior, had been involved in three previous theft cases across different locations. Yogendra Khare, from Morena, also had a history of theft-related offenses. Police recovered two pairs of stolen gold earrings from their possession and are actively working to locate their accomplices and recover the remaining stolen goods.
