In a major narcotics operation, the Bhopal Crime Branch arrested 27-year-old Ankit Verma in MP Nagar, seizing 10.50 grams of MD powder and a high-end Apple iPhone valued at Rs 3 lakh. The bust was made following a tip-off, and Verma was apprehended near LIC Shiv Mandir while allegedly waiting to complete a drug transaction. A police team led by ACP Crime Anurakti Sabnani and Crime Branch In-Charge Bhupendra Diwan carried out the operation, which resulted in the seizure of illegal substances and the high-value mobile phone. Verma, a resident of Awadhpuri, who holds a B.Com degree, admitted to possessing the MD powder. Police have registered a case under Sections 8 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are conducting further interrogation to uncover more details about his network. In a separate development, Aishbagh Police successfully apprehended 31-year-old Kamlesh Das Bairagi, an absconding accused with a Rs 5,000 reward on his head, for his alleged involvement in the abduction of a minor girl on March 14. The police tracked down the Sehore-based suspect using electronic surveillance and the help of local informants after the victims family filed a complaint. Initially, the case was registered under Section 137(2) of BNS, but after further investigation and the victims testimony, the charges were upgraded to include provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The arrest was made by a special team led by Inspector Vijay Bahadur Singh Sengar, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
