A serious case of ragging has come to light at Vikram Universitys Shaligram Tomar Hostel in Ujjain, leading to the expulsion of four accused students. The incident occurred late at night when senior students allegedly barged into a junior students room, subjected him to ragging, and physically assaulted him. The victim promptly filed a complaint, and police have registered a case and launched an investigation. According to police and university sources, the victim, third-year engineering student Sachin Devnath, was attacked by four senior students—Mukul Upadhyay (MBA department), Krishna Udasi (Sports department), Ranu Gurjar (Agriculture department), and Moin Sheikh (Engineering department). The accused reportedly entered Sachins room around 1:30 AM in an intoxicated state. They locked him inside, forced him to remove his clothes, made him dance, and physically assaulted him. Following the incident, Sachin immediately approached the authorities and lodged an FIR at Madhav Nagar Police Station. A medical examination conducted at Charak Hospital confirmed injuries on his head and legs. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arpan Bhardwaj visited the hostel the same night and convened a board meeting. In response, the university took strict action by expelling the four accused students from both the hostel and the university. Siddharth Yadav, president of the universitys Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), said that Sachin had previously expressed fears about harassment by senior students and demanded swift action. The universitys Proctor, Prof. Shailendra Kumar Sharma, confirmed that a formal complaint was filed with the police. Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma confirmed the FIR registration based on the victims report. It was also revealed that the hostels CCTV cameras were not operational at the time of the incident, complicating the investigation. The City Superintendent of Police is leading the probe, and officials have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
