Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the need for well-organized and timely planning to manage the rapid urbanization across Madhya Pradesh. He highlighted that ensuring basic amenities for the public and boosting industrial and commercial activities requires guiding urban development in the right direction. Dr. Yadav announced the development of two metropolitan areas in the state: one encompassing Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar, and the other comprising Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, and Biaora (Rajgarh). He stressed strengthening the management capabilities of urban local bodies and development authorities in these regions, alongside improving their financial health. Pointing to the existing substantial industrial activity in these areas, Dr. Yadav said metropolitan status would accelerate investment and industrial growth. The Chief Minister made these remarks during a meeting on metropolitan area formation held at Samatva Bhavan, his official residence. The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister Shri Karan Singh Verma, Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Principal Secretary of Urban Development and Housing Shri Sanjay Shukla, and other senior officials. He also urged the development of policies to protect natural beauty, agricultural land, forest areas, watersheds, and tourism potential with environmental sensitivity. The Chief Minister further called for the upgrading of gram panchayats within these regions to municipal councils wherever necessary. The meeting also reviewed existing metropolitan development frameworks and management practices from other states, including the National Capital Region (Delhi), Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu.
