Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya stated that museums and educational institutions in any city are their true heritage, and their enrichment enhances the pride of society. He praised the glorious legacy of the Madhavrao Sapre Memorial Newspaper Museum. Vijayvargiya emphasised that in the modern era, a digital library will prove highly beneficial for the younger generation. The Minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the digital library at the Sapre Museum in Bhopal on International Museum Day on Sunday. During the event, institutions and individuals who have supported the museums journey since its inception were honoured. Vijayvargiya said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, and enriching educational institutions is a vital step towards achieving that goal. He noted that the Sapre Museum began on a modest scale, but over the past four decades, it has established a national reputation. Former Union Minister of State Suresh Pachouri lauded Vijaydutt Shridhar for his dedicated efforts in gifting the city of Bhopal a priceless legacy, which continues to serve journalists—the fourth pillar of democracy. Pachouri also commended the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support provided by the State Bank of India, calling it a valuable contribution. Founder member of the institution, Vijaydutt Shridhar, shared that the Madhavrao Sapre Memorial Newspaper Museum and Research Institute has been operating in three formats of library services since 1984, benefiting journalists and readers alike. He informed that, under SBIs CSR initiative, 20 lakh rare documents and fragile archival pages of the museum have been digitised. The reference materials from the museum have supported 1,240 researchers in earning their Ph.D. and D.Litt. degrees from various universities. To promote energy conservation, a 10-kilowatt solar power panel has also been installed at the museum. During the ceremony, families of contributors like Shivkumar Awasthi, the late Suresh Sharma, and the late Shaukat Ramuji were also honoured for their notable contributions to the development of the museum.
