At a joint meeting with traffic police officials, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh on Monday stressed the need for uncompromising safety for schoolchildren, warning school operators of stringent action for any transport-related negligence. The officials reviewed the transport arrangements of schools in Bhopal. The Collector emphasised that no lapse in childrens safety would be tolerated, calling students the future of the nation. School operators were directed to appoint transport officers before the commencement of the new academic session. These officers must inspect vehicle fitness, conduct driver screening, and organise orientation programmes, issuing a joint safety certificate. Operators must comply with Supreme Court guidelines and CBSE transport norms. Police and the administration will periodically conduct driver screenings and issue safety advisories to reinforce compliance. DCP Traffic Sanjeev Singh gave a presentation outlining fitness checks, insurance protocols, and mandatory safety equipment in school vehicles, including CCTV, GPS, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and first-aid kits. He strictly warned schools not to employ drivers with substance abuse issues. Parents and teachers were encouraged to ride along on buses periodically to independently assess safety conditions. All drivers and conductors must strictly follow traffic rules. Horizontal grills on windows are compulsory. Authorities reiterated their commitment to act against any oversight that endangers childrens lives. The meeting comes in the wake of a district-wide checking of school and college buses, which led to the discovery of hundreds of vehicles plying in contravention of norms.
