Sudden rain and strong winds disrupt life in Bhopal

A sudden spell of late evening rain, accompanied by strong, shifting winds, disrupted routine life in several parts of the city. Two-wheeler riders struggled to keep their balance as gusts changed direction unpredictably, making navigation perilous. Corrugated roofing structures were damaged in several localities, with reports coming in from Khanugaon on the edge of the Upper Lake. At least one car was damaged in the area after roofing sheets were blown off. Passengers travelling from Bhopal Junction railway station had a rough time as they braved the downpour to reach in time for their trains. The lack of shelter along parts of the station approach road added to their woes. Though yet unconfirmed, residents said several trees were uprooted in the old city areas due to the force of the wind. Large parts of the old city were plunged into darkness as power supply remained disrupted. It was unclear whether supply lines were snapped or the shutdown was a precautionary measure. Besides, in several parts of Madhya Pradesh, the difference between day and night temperature even reduced to 7 degrees Celsius in Madhya Pradesh due to sharp fall in day temperature. In the eastern region, in Malanjkhand, day temperature was 31.0 degrees Celsius after a drop of 6.8 degrees while night temperature was 23.8 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Seoni recorded day temperature 31.2 degrees Celsius after a drop of 6.6 degrees Celsius while it recorded night temperature 24.2 degrees Celsius. Satna recorded a drop of 8.1 degrees Celsius in day temperature while Rewa recorded a drop of 7.6 degrees Celsius in day temperature.In western region, Bhopal recorded day temperature 37.4 degrees Celsius after drop of 1.7 degrees Celsius while it recorded night temperature 25.4 degrees Celsius after drop of 1.2 degrees Celsius. Indore recorded 36.3 degrees Celsius while it recorded night temperature 23.4 degrees Celsius.Alert has been issued for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) at isolated places in Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Anuppur, Dindori, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Maihar, Pandhurna, Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Shahdol, Umaria, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Panna, Damoh, and Sagar districts.Heat wave is likely at isolated places in Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari districts.
