Excise Department raids hotels, dhabas

A late-night crackdown by the Excise Department in the state capital late on Wednesday night led to 28 cases being registered for illegal liquor service and consumption at eateries. Acting on complaints of unauthorised alcohol service, three excise teams launched simultaneous raids across prominent areas including Raisen Road, Kerwa Road, Bairagarh, and Neelbad. High-end restaurants and roadside dhabas were inspected. Establishments like Raunak Dhaba, Yuvraj Dhaba, Shamiyana Restaurant, Mitron Dhaba, GC Retreat, Garewal, Safal Retreat, White Orchid, Tree Chapter, Vayu, and Fortune Garden came under the scanner. Officials found multiple instances of liquor being served without a valid licence and open alcohol consumption within several premises. Managers and patrons were booked on the spot. Officials said that the raids were conducted under provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. Violations included illegal sales, licence breaches, and unlicensed transport or possession of liquor. Excise authorities confirmed that fines, seizures and court proceedings are underway in several cases. Repeat offenders and serious violators could face legal action before a competent court. The sweeping crackdown created panic among eatery operators. While some expressed concern over the tough enforcement, many local residents and social groups welcomed the decisive action.
