In a major judgment, the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Rahul Singh Yadav on Tuesday sentenced two individuals to three years of rigorous imprisonment for defrauding two complainants of Rs 7 lakh. The convicted accused, Devendra Swaroop Bhatnagar and Awadhesh Singh Sisodia, were also fined Rs 10,000 each. Assistant District Public Prosecutor Neeraj Bhargava represented the prosecution and informed the court that the duo had hatched a well-planned conspiracy to cheat the complainants—Prem Singh and R.K. Goyal—by falsely claiming ownership of a plot in Gulabi Nagar Housing Society. The accused showed plot number 23 as their own and issued receipts for plot number 22, promising to complete the registration process within a month. However, after repeated delays and excuses, both accused absconded. A subsequent investigation revealed that neither of the plots was legally registered in their names. Further inquiries exposed a history of similar fraudulent activities involving the accused. Acting on a written complaint, Baghsewania police registered a case in 2013 under IPC Section 420 (cheating) read with Section 34 (common intention). A charge sheet was filed after a thorough police investigation. During the trial, the court found the evidence and documents submitted by the prosecution to be credible. Convincing arguments led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
