IMC demolishes building using controlled explosives

  • | Monday | 2nd June, 2025

The Indore Municipal Corporation on Saturday morning used controlled explosives to bring down a four-storey building after the property owner allegedly failed to respond to notices issued by the civic body. According to sources, explosives were placed in more than 10 structural pillars. Once triggered, the entire structure collapsed instantly, sending up a massive cloud of dust across the area. The action was taken after authorities found the building had been constructed right next to a drain in violation of municipal norms. As per regulations, no permanent structure is allowed within nine metres of a drain. The building, located in Ward 31 of zone 22, belonged to Izhar Munshi, an employee in the office of the Divisional Joint Director. He had reportedly ignored repeated municipal notices regarding the illegal construction. The structure also included a basement, and both front and rear sections were sealed. Civic officials said the initial demolition attempt on Friday using a JCB machine had to be halted due to the risk of the building toppling onto the machine. Specialists were brought in to handle the explosives-based demolition. The team planted charges in multiple pillars and cordoned off the area to ensure public safety before the final detonation. Officials said the demolition was carried out without incident, and all necessary safety measures had been followed. The civic body plans to continue similar action against other unauthorised constructions in the area.
