BMC gears up for above-average rainfall

Meteorological department predictions of above-average rainfall in the state capital prompted civic officials to enhance preparedness across the city on Tuesday. Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan conducted an extensive inspection of areas such as Chuna Bhatti, Shahpura, Baba Nagar and Bawadia Kalan. He directed intensive cleaning of all major drains and the immediate removal of weeds, shrubs and plants blocking water flow. Zone and ward-level nodal officers were instructed to monitor sanitation and drainage closely. Narayan emphasised the need for a swift response and coordination with assistant health officers to complete urgent tasks. He also urged assistant health officers to carry out inspections alongside local representatives. Efforts are to focus not only on hygiene but also on improving visible cleanliness in public spaces. Narayan issued strict orders to remove stray cattle loitering or sitting on roads—particularly near central verges, dividers and sharp turns—to ensure public safety during the rains. Instructions were also given to maintain green zones, side verges and central medians, with special attention to cleanliness. Narayan said these efforts were vital to prepare the city for a heavy monsoon.
