Habibganj police have registered a case against a youth identified as Chirag Singh, following allegations of rape by a 21-year-old woman from the Kolar area. The case came to light after the victim was hospitalized due to severe complications arising from medication she took to terminate a pregnancy, reportedly caused by the accused. According to police reports, the victim, a graduate employed in a private sector job, initially connected with Chirag Singh on Instagram in 2023. Their online acquaintance soon blossomed into a romantic relationship, characterized by frequent phone conversations that deepened their bond. The alleged ordeal began on February 18, 2023. The woman claims that Chirag lured her to an OYO hotel near the Habibganj railway station under the pretext of marriage. Once there, he allegedly engaged in sexual activity with her against her will. When she objected, Chirag reportedly pacified her objections by promising to marry her soon, which led her to continue the relationship with him. Over the next three years, the accused allegedly took the victim to various locations, continuing to sexually abuse her under the repeated promise of marriage. However, the situation took a drastic turn recently when the woman discovered she was pregnant and informed Chirag. According to her statement, Chirag abruptly cut off all contact with her following this revelation, abandoning her. Distraught and feeling helpless, the woman took medication to terminate the pregnancy. This self-administered abortion unfortunately led to severe health issues, necessitating her immediate admission to a hospital for urgent medical attention. It was the hospital authorities who, upon recognizing the nature of her medical complications, alerted the police. The Kolar police initially registered a zero FIR (First Information Report) and subsequently transferred the case diary to the Habibganj police station, which has jurisdiction over the location where the alleged crime occurred. Sub-Inspector Mukta Sharma of Habibganj police stated that the victims information about the accused is limited to his name and mobile number. Chirag Singh had allegedly claimed to reside in the Chuna Bhatti area. Police have since launched a manhunt to apprehend Chirag Singh, who is currently absconding. The victim remains under medical treatment as the investigation proceeds, with authorities working to gather further evidence and bring the accused to justice.
