Two separate incidents of animal cruelty in Madhya Pradesh have ignited widespread outrage after CCTV footage captured individuals deliberately running over animals. The distressing visuals have prompted complaints from animal rights groups and public calls for immediate legal action. In Bhopals Shaheed Nagar area, a woman allegedly drove her car over a street dog on Wednesday evening. CCTV footage revealed the dog was stationary on the road when the womans vehicle hit it. She did not stop after the impact and fled the scene, leaving the dog to die in agony. Activists from People for Animals (PFA) filed a complaint at Kohefiza Police Station, demanding registration of an FIR under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Swati Gaurav, a representative of PFA, said, The footage clearly shows the act was intentional. The dog was not obstructing the vehicle. Confusion ensued when reports surfaced that the complaint had been withdrawn by an NGO representative, but police stated that the matter remains under investigation. We are identifying the woman through the cars registration details, said Kohefiza Police Station in-charge KG Shukla. Meanwhile, in Satnas Kolgawan area, a similar case unfolded when a speeding car (registration MP19 ZK 7503) ran over a calf that was sitting beside a cow. CCTV footage captured the car hitting the calf and speeding away. The calf died on the spot. The animals owner, Gyanendra Sahu, along with Bajrang Dal members, filed a police complaint at Kolgawan Police Station. Authorities are investigating using the vehicle details captured in the footage. Both incidents have sparked intense public anger, with animal rights organizations and residents demanding strict enforcement of legal provisions. Under Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, intentional harm to animals is punishable with fines and imprisonment. Police in both cities have assured action, while activists stress the need for swift and exemplary punishment to prevent further cases of animal cruelty. Investigations are currently underway.
