The much-anticipated documentary series Sadanira, which delves into the cultural, ecological, and spiritual legacy of Indias rivers, was officially launched on June 20 at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. The event marked a significant milestone under the Madhya Pradesh governments Jal-Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan and was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. As part of the ceremony, the official poster of Sadanira was unveiled by the Chief Minister, presented by the series creative director, Devrishi, also known as Rishikesh Pandey. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Yadav praised the initiative for bringing to light the profound connection between rivers and Indias civilizational ethos, calling it a valuable contribution to cultural and environmental awareness. Produced under the guidance of Veer Bharat Nyas, Sadanira is a weekly documentary series that aims to explore the spiritual, cultural, historical, and scientific importance of Indias rivers. The concept for the series was developed by Ram Tiwari, Secretary of Veer Bharat Nyas. The series will be broadcast via the Veer Bharat YouTube channel. Devrishi, who serves as the creative director and composer, has also written and composed the official Sadanira theme song. The Sanatan Wisdom Foundation, co-led by Devrishi and Sadhana Pandey, played a key role in overseeing the research and script development for the series. The visual direction, including AI-based imagery and special effects, has been led by Vyomkesh Pandey, while noted cinematographer Madhusudhan Kota has headed the visual storytelling of the project. The inaugural episode focuses on the cosmic origins of water, blending Vedic cosmology with contemporary astrophysical insights. Upcoming episodes will cover rivers such as the Narmada, Saraswati, Ganga, Yamuna, Kshipra, Godavari, and Kaveri. These episodes aim to highlight not only the geographical and historical dimensions of these rivers but also their mythological significance, medicinal ecosystems, and social relevance. Coinciding with the launch was the Sadanira Samagam, a five-day cultural and academic conclave attended by more than 200 scholars, scientists, writers, artists, and environmental researchers from across India. The gathering featured musical and theatrical performances, along with the release of seven books dedicated to traditional water wisdom and ecological knowledge. The initiative was supported by key institutions including the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science & Technology and the Tribal Folk Art and Language Academy. Looking ahead, the documentary series is set to enter a second phase that aims to chronicle over 100 rivers across India, including endangered and extinct rivers such as Drishadvati, Vedavati, Ruparel, and Tamraparni. The creators hope to use visually compelling, research-driven storytelling to foster public awareness about Indias vanishing river heritage and its urgent need for conservation.
