CM, VD respond to Congress over Gwalior incident

  • | Tuesday | 24th June, 2025

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and BJP State President and MP Vishnudatt Sharma responded to Congress attempt to politicize the statue issue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in Gwalior during a media interaction at the BJP state office. CM Dr. Yadav stated that the state government would comply with the decision made by the committee formed under the leadership of the Chief Justice of the High Court regarding the Gwalior incident. He further added that Congress is misleading the public about the situation, and the people of Madhya Pradesh and the nation are well aware of the truth, making Congress theatrics ineffective. Vishnudatt Sharma emphasized that the Gwalior incident is a judicial matter, and both CM Dr. Yadav and the state government respect every court order and work with full sensitivity. He also called on Congress to apologize unconditionally to the people of the country and the state for disrespecting Baba Saheb and engaging in anti-constitutional activities. Sharma suggested that Congress should fast as a form of atonement for their actions. Dr. Yadav further criticized Congress for not taking any action for the development of Baba Sahebs birthplace in Mahu during the 55 years they were in power at both the state and national levels. He also reminded Congress of the time when the Congress government had asked Baba Sahebs wife to pay the airfare for transporting his mortal remains for cremation. "Congress has consistently disrespected Baba Saheb, and for this, the party must apologize to the nation," Dr. Yadav added. The CM also pointed out that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar had opposed Article 370, yet Congress added it under pressure, depriving the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Jammu and Kashmir of their rights. He accused Congress of preventing Baba Saheb from winning a Lok Sabha seat and criticized them for imposing the Emergency during Indira Gandhis tenure, undermining the Constitution. "Congress is now using Baba Sahebs name to cover up their past sins, but the public sees through this," he said. Vishnudatt Sharma echoed similar sentiments, reiterating that the Gwalior incident is a judicial matter and both CM Dr. Yadav and the state government respect the courts decisions.  Sharma condemned Congress for its double standards, particularly in how they disrespected Baba Saheb during his lifetime and after his death. He reminded the public that while Congress was in power, they ignored Baba Sahebs principles and even denied him the Bharat Ratna until the BJP came to power.   Sharma further demanded that Congress apologize unconditionally for their anti-constitutional actions and called on them to fast as a gesture of remorse. He also reminded Congress of the Emergency imposed on June 25, when Indira Gandhi curtailed democracy for personal political gain. "The Indian public will never forgive Congress for the murder of democracy," he stated. Sharma added that BJP would organize nationwide programs on the anniversary of the Emergency to commemorate the event.   This exchange between BJP leaders and Congress leaders highlights ongoing political tensions regarding Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkars legacy, the Constitution, and the actions of political parties related to both historical and contemporary issues.
