BHEL staff protest move to reclaim Township land

  • | Tuesday | 24th June, 2025

The Madhya Pradesh governments plan to reclaim 2,000 acres from BHEL for a mega township on Monday triggered fierce protests from employees and union leaders in Bhopal. A demonstration was held outside the Foundry Gate, with officers and workers opposing the transfer of land. They claim the move threatens BHELs operations and employee welfare, established over six decades on the same site. The states proposed integrated township, already cleared by the Centre, will house healthcare, education, industrial, and residential facilities. Officials say it could transform Bhopals development trajectory. But union leaders remain defiant. Labour leader Deepak Gupta declared that no part of the land would be surrendered, calling the decision disastrous for thousands of dependent families and BHELs future viability. Gupta demanded the government immediately withdraw its proposal. Union president Lokendra Shekhawat and leaders Shahid Ali, Naresh Jadon, Vinay Singh, Kuldeep Maurya, and Dhruv Singh Maravi also joined the protest.
