Violent clash breaks out at Amalaha Toll Plaza in Sehore

  • | Thursday | 26th June, 2025

A violent altercation occurred between vehicle owners and toll plaza employees at the Amalaha toll booth in Sehore on Monday afternoon, leaving two individuals injured, one of whom was referred to Bhopal in critical condition. The incident, which took place around 4:40 PM, saw the use of sticks and shovels. Sub Inspector Avinash Bhopale reported that the confrontation began when a group of vehicle owners demanded free passage through the toll booth. When toll staff objected, a heated argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Over 20 individuals, reportedly from Ashta, Hakimabad, and Sehore, attacked the toll workers and vandalized the toll office, even attempting to break the toll barrier. Police have registered an FIR against more than 10 individuals in connection with the incident. One suspect has been taken into custody and is currently under interrogation. While only the toll management has filed a formal complaint, no FIR has been lodged by the injured parties, although two individuals are receiving treatment at the hospital. During the altercation, a child accompanying a toll employee was present at the booth. Disturbed by the violence, the child reportedly began crying out of fear, adding to the chaos. Injured victim Rohit Nath alleged that the toll staff demanded more money than the fixed rate. When I objected, the toll bouncers assaulted me. The toll management has deployed over a dozen bouncers who often misbehave with commuters, Nath said, also claiming that the management has withheld CCTV footage of the incident involving their staff. Toll management, however, maintains that the attack was provoked by their refusal to allow free passage, and they have called for strict action against the assailants. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
