Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) marked its 25th foundation day on Tuesday with a silver jubilee celebration led by Bhopal MP Alok Sharma, who inaugurated the year-long commemorations and called for the hospitals elevation to a full-fledged medical college. At a ceremony held on National Doctors Day, Sharma planted a sapling, unveiled a new high-resolution echocardiography machine, and launched a special silver jubilee logo. He also unveiled portraits of ancient Indian medical pioneers Charaka and Sushruta, paying tribute to their enduring legacy. Dedicated doctors at the hospital were felicitated for their service. Addressing BMHRC staff, Sharma praised the hospitals work with gas tragedy victims and its growing role in public healthcare. BMHRC is now a symbol of trust for common citizens as well, he said, urging the hospitals doctors to remain committed until it becomes a medical college. He added that he would raise the matter with Union Health Minister JP Nadda and push for new departments and services, including general medicine. The newly inaugurated echocardiography system, supported by ICMR, offers high-resolution imaging that allows for early diagnosis of heart conditions—even before symptoms appear. It is particularly useful for identifying early signs of heart failure and monitoring cardiac effects during treatments like chemotherapy. BMHRC Director Dr Manisha Srivastava said the hospital previously had only outdated machines. With two new machines arriving, we will begin using them within a week, she said. She added that BMHRC currently has 183 doctors—its highest-ever figure—and stressed the need for more Indian medical graduates nationwide. Thanking Sharma for his support, she called the silver jubilee a milestone in the hospitals ongoing journey of progress and compassion.
