Odisha: SI of police arrested by vigilance on graft charge

Finding no other option, the complainant reported the matter before SP, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division, for necessary action.The Vigilance laid a trap on Saturday noon and caught the SI red-handed in the outpost. Rented residential house of Ray located at Nirakarpur and residential quarters at Uttara Chhak were raided.He was arrested under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He had demanded Rs 20,000 from Sadangi for registration of the FIR. The case is under investigation, Vigilance sources said. The sleuths recovered the bribe money from the possession of Ray.

BHUBANESWAR: The Vigilance on Saturday arrested Benudhara Ray, a sub-inspector of police, for accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from a security agency chief for registration of FIR regarding theft case.Ray, who is now working as office-in-charge of Kausalyaganga outpost under Pipili police station in Puri district, was caught red-handed by Vigilance sleuth while taking illegal gratification from Bijaya Kumar Sadangi of village Bhapur under Balipatna police limits in Khurda district.Sources said the complainant Sadangi, proprietor of RBM Group of Security, had engaged security staff at a private engineering college at Uttara, on the outskirts of the city. He had lodged a complaint with the Kausalyaganga outpost on February 16 regarding theft of electric angle and wires from the college campus.Though Ray had received the report, he did not take any initiative to register a case. He had demanded Rs 20,000 from Sadangi for registration of the FIR.
