BALASORE: Police on Monday said a girl student of a college in Balasore district committed suicide on Friday after her proposal of love to another girl was rejected.Sasmita Dey (21), a final-year Plus III arts student of Nilagiri Women's College, was found hanging from the fan in her room in a hostel run by the SC and ST welfare department on the campus. Police registered a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by the hostel superintendent, Binapani Das, and arrested Sasmita's former partner - a Plus III science student of a different college - for abetment to suicide on Sunday. She was sent to Nilagiri subjail after her bail was rejected by a court on the same day."The deceased and the accused girl were in a relationship. Sasmita committed suicide after her proposal of marriage was rejected by her partner," said inspector in charge of Nilagiri police station, Nalita Modi.The officer added that the accused girl stayed in a private hostel near Nilagiri College. A diary found in Sasmita's room mentions her relationship with the accused. The hostel superintendent said the two would often be seen together and would spend hours on the phone. "The day before Sasmita committed suicide, she was unusually quiet," Das added.The father of the accused alleged that police framed a false case against his daughter.
