Heavy rain causes waterlogging in twin city

BHUBANESWAR: Heavy rain under the impact of deep depression over Odisha created havoc in different parts of the state. "It is almost difficult to venture out in the heavy rain. Rain started from Thursday evening caused severe waterlogging in twin city, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.Low lying areas like Acharya Vihar, Laxmi Sagar, Gauri Garden, Jagamara, Baramunda, some part of Jaydev Vihar and Nayapalli. Due to incessant rain, commuters took shelter under flyovers at CRP Square, Fire Station square, Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar and Vani Vihar blocking the road traffic.Forecast of IMD, about heavy rain in the twin city, has created fear among the residents staying low lying areas of the city. Similarly, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has also used water pump sets to drain out water from water logged areas.Following of which, the rain water on National Highway 16 has also blocked traffic in front of Iskcon temple at Nayapalli.

Some areas in Bhubaneswar and Roxy Lane, Patapole, Buxi Bazaar, Tala Telenga Bazaar, Rausa Patna, Stewart Lane in Cuttack bore the brunt of the incessant rain. Water entered into the houses of people in some areas of these cities."It is almost difficult to venture out in the heavy rain. When I woke up in the morning, I saw knee-deep water on the road in front of my building," said Siddhartha Mishra of Jagamohan Nagar, Jagamara area.Bhubaneswar municipal corporation (BMC) has opened 24x7 control room to address the waterlogging issues of the city residents which is flooded with several complaints of waterlogging. BMC has also deployed officials and field employees to drain the water through pump sets.Fire service pumps have been deplyoed and 13 water pump sets for de-watering at Gouri Garden, Gouri Nagar, Shriram Nagar, Mallick Complex, Ratna Villa, Gouri Sankar English Medium School, Nayapalli Behera Sahi, Nandan Vihar, Jayadev Vihar Corporation Gali, Paika Nagar, Bisnupriya Apartment, Padma Apartment gali, Naka Gate in Bhubaneswar. Similarly, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has also used water pump sets to drain out water from water logged areas.Following of which, the rain water on National Highway 16 has also blocked traffic in front of Iskcon temple at Nayapalli. Due to incessant rain, commuters took shelter under flyovers at CRP Square, Fire Station square, Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar and Vani Vihar blocking the road traffic.Forecast of IMD, about heavy rain in the twin city, has created fear among the residents staying low lying areas of the city. Situation may get worse if the rain continues, said a senior officer of BMC.
