Flood situation grim in Ganjam; Indian Navy to deploy two choppers for relief and rescue operations

Official sources said road connectivity to Mohana has been restored while road connectivity on Palasa-Paralakhemundi route is yet to be restored as the uprooted trees and electric poles are still on roads. Adequate dry foods and drinking water is available. The district administration is trying to connect from Purusottampur side.Aska and Purushottampur NACs have been marooned because of incessant rain.The district administration has rescued over 94,000 people from various places and kept in various relief camps.Six NDRF and ODRAF teams are deployed in various blocks in Ganjam for the relief and rescue operations.“We are fully prepared to tackle the situation. BHUBANESWAR: As the flood situation remained grim in four blocks of Ganjam district , two Indian Navy helicopters will be deployed in the district to expedite the relief and rescue operations.Informing it here after a review meeting by chief minister Naveen Patnaik , chief secretary AP Padhi says the two Indian Navy choppers from Vishakapatnam will be mobilised from Friday.While Aska and Purusttampur blocks in Ganjam are worst affected, parts of Chhatrapur and Ganjam blocks also bore the brunt because of flood in Rushikulya and its tributaries.Though no human casualties are confirmed officially in any districts because of the cyclone and subsequent flood, chief secretary said they have received reports of deaths through local media from various districts which are being verified.As per reports from ground, Aska area has been cut off from mainland from Hinjilicut side. Similarly, over 500 trees uprooted in Rayagada.The chief minister directed collectors of three districts to closely monitor the situation and to shift the affected persons to safer places.As a number of thatched houses have been damaged in various districts, the chief minister asked to submit the damage assessment reports within seven days.Naveen directed to deploy all potential workforce in relief and rescue operations.Free kitchen and free medicine will be facilitated for the rescued people while special health camps by roping in doctors from other districts will be held to provide health assistance.Hundreds pregnant, lactating mothers and newborn have been shifted to safe places.On rainfall forecast, several interior and northern districts would receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours.

Electricity that was disrupted because of the cyclone Titli in Ganjam will be restored in next 48 hours except Aska and Purusottampur,” said Padhi.Of total 5.5 lakh affected consumers, electricity supply has been restored of three lakh consumers, official sources said.Though there was flood threats in Gajapati and Rayagada, state government says situation in both the districts are under control.Over 15,000 people are taking shelters in various relief camps in Gajapati whole more than 1000 people have been shifted to safer places in Rayagada.Both the district administrations in Gajapati and Rayagada have sought additional man power or fire service personnel to clear the debris from roads which were generated because of cyclone.Gajapati was severely affected because of cyclone Titli.
