Odisha to make Bhubaneswar skill capital of India

Around 1, 51,000 trainees and trainers of this skill development initiative are set to create a best-skilled workforce in the world. The government gives monetary help to the youths, official sources said.The state will procure the 18-storied IDCO tower at Mancheswar for starting the World Skill Centre. Out of the 19 medal winners, four have represented India at Eurasian High-tech Skills Competition Russia and brought laurels to the country. It will create awareness about apprenticeship training and develop a pool of skilled master trainers in Odisha. To begin with, it will set up modern electrical labs at Government ITI, Cuttack, to help 441 electrical trade trainees.

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Tuesday signed MoUs with five industries and organisations so that various skill development institutes produce job-ready workforce, day after the government inked a deal with Singapore government for establishing a world skill centre here.A roadmap is prepared to make Bhubaneswar as the skill capital of the country, said Sanjay Kumar Singh, secretary of state skill development and technical education department, while addressing the gathering at Make in Odisha conclave.He said the state government has started strengthening of industrial training institutes (ITIs) and polytechnic colleges. As many as 100 ITI teachers and trainers were sent to ITE Institution in Singapore for leadership development programme.“Odisha emerged the second in the medal tally at the India Skills 2018, marginally behind Maharashtra . Out of the 19 medal winners, four have represented India at Eurasian High-tech Skills Competition Russia and brought laurels to the country. Our students will also represent the country in World Skills Abu Dhabi 2018 this month. We are bagging the first position in India for the consecutively second year in implementing Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yojana,” he added.The state is encouraging and supporting at least 10 per cent of the skilled youth to venture startups. It has set a target to create 3000 startups or small enterprises in the state in the next two years. The government gives monetary help to the youths, official sources said.The state will procure the 18-storied IDCO tower at Mancheswar for starting the World Skill Centre. It will be run with the technical expertise from Singapore government. Around 1, 51,000 trainees and trainers of this skill development initiative are set to create a best-skilled workforce in the world. “Besides, the five MoUs signed on Tuesday will give a fillip to the state’s dream to make Bhubaneswar skill capital in India,” said Singh.The first MoU was signed between the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) to collaborate for creating and strengthening employers’ engagement programme to promote a robust ecosystem of training and recruitment. It will create awareness about apprenticeship training and develop a pool of skilled master trainers in Odisha. It will facilitate and integrate career counselling in existing institutions or training centres.The other four MoUs were signed with state directorate of technical education and training (DTET) and four different industry bodies like Tech Mahindra Limited, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited, Schneider Electric India Foundation and Employability Bridge, Chennai.Schneider Electric will collaborate and align the training infrastructure of government ITIs in Odisha for electrical programmes with industry requirement and expose the training to the latest technologies and relevant industry best practices. To begin with, it will set up modern electrical labs at Government ITI, Cuttack, to help 441 electrical trade trainees. Later it will support Government ITI, Berhampur, and Hirakud in a phased manner.The other three industry bodies Tech Mahindra, Suzuki Motor and Employability Bridge will collaborate with Central Placement Cell of the DTET for placement of students pursuing diploma education and ITI training.
