“The delay by the Election Commission is defeating the purpose of ensuring fee and fair election. Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday moved the chief electoral officer (CEO) on an alleged instance of model code of conduct (MCC) violation by BJP. It is misguiding the voters of the state,” the memorandum said. The BJD also alleged that national broadcaster Doordarshan has been showing only BJP-related news, while blanking out the activities and events of BJD. It complained about posters of Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan at different central public sector undertakings (PSUs) and at trains and railway stations. The BJD had filed a petition on March 11 regarding the non-removal of hoardings and signs at PSUs, especially those of the ministry of petroleum and natural gas. “Though the Election Commission has ordered the removal of all hoardings with political leaders’ photos on them within 24 hours of the declaration of election dates, it seems the BJP-led Centre is using a delaying tactic,” the BJD memorandum said.Besides, BJP’s posters have been pasted on trains passing through the state; according to the EC, this is illegal.
