Burla reports 29 jaundice cases

Sambalpur: As many as 29 confirmed cases of jaundice have been reported from Burla triggerring fear among residents. “We have asked to public health engineering organization (PHEO) to check the pipelines to trace the leakages and repair them urgently. The district administration has initiated many steps to combat the disease.Additional district medical officer (Public Health) Panchanan Nayak said contaminated water is the reason behind the outbreak of jaundice in Burla. Water samples are also being collected regularly for testing,” he said. We are asking them to drink boiled water.

Sambalpur: As many as 29 confirmed cases of jaundice have been reported from Burla triggerring fear among residents. The district administration has initiated many steps to combat the disease.Additional district medical officer (Public Health) Panchanan Nayak said contaminated water is the reason behind the outbreak of jaundice in Burla. “We are sensitising people there. We are asking them to drink boiled water. The ASHA and anganwadi workers are visiting door to door and sensitising the people on cleanliness,” he said.He said jaundice cases have been reported from many areas, including One-R Colony, Mahatabnagar, Attachakipara, Contractor Colony and some other areas of Burla. “We have asked to public health engineering organization (PHEO) to check the pipelines to trace the leakages and repair them urgently. We have also asked the PHEO to stop piped water supply to the affected areas and supply them water through tankers,” he added.Commissioner of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) Trilochan Majhi said, “Sporadic cases of jaundice have been reported from Burla. We have already started cleaning drains in the affected area. Water samples are also being collected regularly for testing,” he said. He added that the situation is under control and we are taking all steps to check the disease from spreading.A team of SMC official led by food safety officer Pratap Rudra Mandal has launched a drive to destroy unhygienic food being sold in restaurants and eateries in Burla.
