BHUBANESWAR: The drugs directorate with the help of Odisha Police conducted raids in different places of the state and seized huge amount of cough syrup, containing codeine , and nitrosun tablets being sold illegally at the stores.Sources said that on the basis of inputs, the drugs directorate officials seized 1,300 nitrosun tablets from one store in Choudwar on Thursday. "Our teams have made the seizure and informed the police following which the person selling the drugs was arrested. Moreover, such drugs should not be sold without proper prescription. According to Drug and Cosmetic Act and Rules, pharmacies selling such drugs need to maintain proper documentation.

She said that the teams have been conducting raids in different areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in search of couch syrup, containing codeine, and other narcotic drugs, which are being sold without prescription. According to Drug and Cosmetic Act and Rules, pharmacies selling such drugs need to maintain proper documentation. Moreover, such drugs should not be sold without proper prescription. However, such drugs are being illegally sold by pharmacies as well as other stores and are being widely used as intoxicants. "Such drugs are very dangerous if used in high quantity for intoxication," said Sobhan Rath, a medicine specialist.
