It’s a double whammy for the state of Odisha. On one side is the menace of Coronavirus showing its aggravation each passing day and, now the rains, making the tasks of prevention all the more difficult.

Despite all painstaking efforts by the Odisha government, Corona is stalking us all seemingly like a monster without even a shadow. The trails have left all our experts/doctors pathetically clueless, let alone discovery of the right vaccine.

Whatever is going on, are just an exercise through conjectures and common sense which is the only panacea at the moment. But, Odisha has little reason for complacency only because, we have here lesser cases of the disease and much less deaths in comparisons to many other places in the country.

Yet, now crossing an average of 2000 plus positive cases every day, and happily so, a good number of recoveries, going by what the health department would have us believe, is a consolation. However, the worries grow when seen that the cases from outside the institutional quarantines are now little above fifty per cent of the total cases.

Let Us Be Selfish About Ourselves At Least!

Results of weekend shutdowns have been quite unhelpful, in essence, and the non-cooperative attitude of people in general during relaxations continues to be the same still. Social or physical distancing, the norms are followed by many but, the scenes of some people in groups with or even without masks can be seen unmindfully or otherwise jostling with each other.

People have to be, at least, selfish about their own good if not of others. It may be a bit of fun for the few but that could be ruinous for many.

It may take time before the state administration can have a loud sigh and say that the things are under control. Cursory mentions about the virus during the Independence Day speeches, by both the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and by Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik were indicative enough that, the people must learn to get along with situations and go ahead.

Grinning Skeletons Between The Ribs

In a lighter note, narratives aired through the media and the officials of the day have made one class a happier lot. They are the manufacturers of alcohol as demand for greater percentage of alcohol in sanitizers are  said to be the most effective guard against the virus. Then now other things, besides the masks, have hit the collective imagination of people and that is cleaners for vegetables, spray-sanitizers for all the articles in the house including the walls and surfaces one can have his or her sight on.

So fearsome is the virus that, out own houses have become landscapes of terror, our own people have become alien, intimacy in family life get less and less intense where conjugal relationship is slowly on the wane. Because, the theory of asymptomatic trend stays within millions like a grinning skeleton with a crossbow bolt within our desires.
