The Health Department has advised people to remain alert to avoid a lockdown situation once again. The department said that people are already under mental stress due to loss of livelihood. The government has suggested people take the vaccine shot when their turn comes. Even after taking the vaccine, continue to wear a mask, wash hand frequently and maintain physical distance and avoid public gathering.

The Odisha Government has alerted people with fresh guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus with its new strain which is said to be more dangerous and highly contagious than the older one after the fresh spike in the cases of Covid-19 in various States like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.

In an advisory, the Health and Family Welfare department cautioned people to follow appropriate Covid behaviour to stay away from the new strain even as the situation has remained under control in Odisha. Daily positive cases in the State are hovering below one hundred, government sources said.

The new strain has emerged with more new symptoms. People diagnosed with the newer strain may report fever, nausea, vomiting, body ache, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, sore throat and nasal congestion. The major cause of concern is that the new variant of the Covid-19 virus can remain alive on the dry object for around eight days. It can enter the human body so easily than the older one.

The Health Department has advised people to remain alert to avoid a lockdown situation once again. The department said that people are already under mental stress due to loss of livelihood. So, a change in lifestyle can check the lockdown which has already been imposed in various cities in other States.

The government has suggested people take the vaccine shot when their turn comes. Even after taking the vaccine, continue to wear a mask, wash hand frequently and maintain physical distance and avoid public gathering, it said.

“We should remain very careful and cautious to ensure appropriate Covid norms in school, colleges, temple and markets,” the department said in a statement.

As there is no travel restriction, many people are coming to Odisha from high-risk States. The government has advised people coming from outside to remain in home isolation for seven days. People with any of the Covid symptom should get themselves tested as soon as possible and take medical advice, the Health department stated in its advisory.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also appealed to people to follow the Covid guidelines and achieve the ‘zero infection’ target.

He had said one should not lower the guard against the virus and be complacent as there is still a threat of the coronavirus staging a comeback.

The Chief Minister had further said the bitter experience of lockdown is still afresh in the memory of people as it adversely affected the economy, social life, education of the children and all other sectors. The only way to avoid lockdown is to be highly cautious, he added.
