Odisha sizzles with heat; Mercury crosses 42 degrees in some areas

Maximum temperature (Day temperature) is very likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius over the districts of Odisha during next 2 days and no large change thereafter.

Heatwave conditions continue to prevail across the State throwing lives out of gear even as 14 places in Odisha recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius today.

According to the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, Titilagarh in Bolangir district emerged hottest in the State with a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees. Baripada stood second in the table with a temperature of 42 degrees followed by Bolangir (41.5), Sambalpur (41.2) and Jharsuguda (41.2).

The other places recorded above 40-degree temperature are Hirakud (41.1), Angul (41.1), Malkangiri (41), Bhawanipatna (40.8), Bhubaneswar (40.5), Talcher (40.3), Nayagarh (40.3), Cuttack (40) and Balasore (40).

“Maximum temperature (Day temperature) is very likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius over the districts of Odisha during next 2 days and no large change thereafter. Also maximum temperature (Day temperature) very likely to be above normal by 2-4 degree Celsius during the next 24 hours and by 3-5  degree Celsius thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha,” IMD Bhubaneswar Director HR Biswas said.

He said Yellow Warning has been issued for two districts- Bolangir and Sonepur in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions.
