Bhubaneswar: BMC prohibits numerous social gatherings, max 100 guests allowed at weddings

Enforcement Body of the BMC sealed the Vishal Mega Mart and fined multiple shops in violation of Covid guidelines at the Unit 2 Market Building area of the city.

In view of gross violations of safety norms and the recent surge in the Covid-19 cases in the city and state, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a fresh set of guidelines on Friday. The governing body tightened the current restrictions for social gatherings like wedding, death rituals, funerals, and other social types of gathering. The new restrictions will be implemented with effect from April 6.

The maximum number of people allowed in a wedding-related event has been capped at 100, while a cap of 50 people has been set for death-related functions.

Events and gatherings related to promotional activities, conferences, conclaves, centenary, golden jubilee, silver jubilee. celebrations of institutions have been prohibited.

For other kinds of social gatherings, the host shall have to obtain specific permission from BMC, which will be given keeping in view the requirement of host and prevailing pandemic situation subject to maximum participants ceiling of 100 persons.

Bhubaneswar reported 45 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, taking the total caseload to 343.
