Chandni Majhi, daughter of Dana Majhi, who walked 10km carrying his dead wife, clears matric examination

Chandini became the first member of the family to clear the matriculation examination.

Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE) released the results of the class 10 examination yesterday.

Chandni, daughter of Dana Majhi, a tribal farmer from Kalahandi district, who made headlines by walked about 10 km carrying his wife`s body about 5 years ago, has cleared Odisha`s high school examination this year.

At the time of the incident in 2016, Chandni Majhi who is the eldest daughter of Dana Majhi was walking along with her father. Dana Majhi was on his way to his village from the hospital carrying the body of his wife Amangdei on his shoulder. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was criticized in the country and abroad due to these pictures of misery in Odisha.

Every family member had a smile on their faces on Friday as Chandini became the first member of the family to clear the matriculation examination. Chandni has got 280 marks out of 600 in class 10th. 98% of students (5.6 lakh students) who enrolled for the 10th examination this year have passed in the entire state.

Achyuta Samant, MP from Kandhamal of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and founder of KISS(Kalinga Institute of Social Science), took the responsibility of teaching Majhi`s three daughters, including Chandni, and got her admitted at Kalinga Institute of Social Science in Bhubaneswar. He expressed happiness over the success of Chandni.
