With no significant improvement in the COVID-19 situation in 10 coastal districts of Odisha, the Odisha government on Thursday announced an extension of the partial lockdown till August 1.

However, permission has been given to run buses, beauty parlours, salons and gym centres throughout the state even during the lockdown.

Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra said, "Odisha`s Test Positivity Rate (TPR), which was 5 per cent on July 1, has now come down to below 3 per cent. The daily infection cases have come down from 3,000 earlier reported to 2,000. Only Cuttack and Khurda districts account for 40 percent of the total daily cases in the state. This means that the situation has not completely improved.’ Hence, the partial lockdown in the state has been extended for another two weeks.

20 districts (Category A) with low infection rate will get relief from Friday as compared to the rest 10 districts (Category B).

Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh are in Category B. The weekly shutdown will continue in these districts.
