Covid infected prisoner escapes from hospital in Odisha's Ganjam

Baligida Jail Superintendent SK Soy said that the 37-year-old prisoner was admitted to MKCG (Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati) Medical College and Hospital on July 31 after being found infected with the coronavirus.

An undertrial prisoner, who was recently found infected with Kovid-19 in Odisha`s Ganjam district, escaped from the hospital on Saturday. An official gave this information. Baligida Jail Superintendent SK Soy said that the 37-year-old prisoner was admitted to MKCG (Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati) Medical College and Hospital on July 31 after being found infected with the coronavirus.

The accused was lodged in a sub-jail in Kandhamal district on July 7 after he was arrested for drug smuggling. On the other hand, with the arrival of 1,096 new cases of Covid-19 in Odisha on Saturday, the total number of infected reached 9,85,827, while the death toll has increased to 6,366 due to the loss of 64 more people.

A health department official said that out of 1,096 new cases, 637 were reported from isolated centers and the rest came during tracing of people who came in contact with the infected. There were 389 cases in Khurda district, 92 in Cuttack and 77 in Balasore. The capital Bhubaneshwar comes under Khurda district. No new cases were reported in Boudh and Nabarangpur districts. The maximum number of 27 patients died in Khurda and 17 in Cuttack.
