Big showdown on cards when Naveen toils hard for sixth term and PM may force play a leveler role in Odisha

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has flexed his muscles just a week to go for the visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Odisha with major moral baggage. What is that? A thaw with the Biju Janata Dal or a show down before the coming mega polls.

However, beforehand Patnaik has already unrolled a slew of welfare measures to thwart any anti-incumbency wave.

In this month of February, from the 12th of the month Patnaik has already announced 18 welfare schemes which encompasses benefits from bottom to the top, very inclusive measures.

Right from people from the sports arena down to Daily wagers, people engaged in masonry work and even further down to Kendu leaf plucker and landless farmers, Anganwadi workers he has tried not to leave anyone out of the ambit of the schemes by enhancing incentives, wages and many things.

He has made eye-catching announcements for the sports in the state like cash incentives for outstanding Hockey players and infrastructural build ups for Cricket with special allocations.

This being done days before the PM’s visit to Odisha does speak a lot about Patnaik’s warming up to match the possible announcements by the PM who is likely to be in Odisha on January 5.

Right from the word go, Patnaik has been demonstrating his composure to flatten the barbs of the opposition in general and the State BJP leaders in particular, by unrolling schemes rapidly enhancing his outreach among the masses who matter the most.

Even political observers are apparently scrambling for their wits to analyse the contrasting scenario.

On one side the unspoken truce between the PM and Patnaik which has been in circulation in the political circles and on the other Patnaik’s seemingly unwillingness to give up the political dominance regardless of the bonhomies.

What is in news that the PM during his visit may announce to confer the Bharat Ratna award to the legendary Biju Patnaik, Naveen’s late father, for his towering role in Indian politics obviously to placate the ruffled psyche of the people of Odisha who have been demanding the award for Biju Babu since long.

This is even rumored that Modi may play to the imperatives of politics by indirectly sounding an unofficial alliance with the BJD for the 2024 polls thus further consolidating the political presence of the BJP which still falters with just 22 Assembly seats in a house of 147 in Odisha.

It has grown to become a big political predicament for both, the BJD and the BJP, as to how to balance the emerging moral hurdles which both may face.

Naveen seems in no mood to relinquish his unconquerable passion for power and for the BJP it may be a situation when the latter may have to endure an unbearable reality.

So, a lot depends on the position the PM takes in his possible forthcoming visit to Odisha.
