Looted Dutch tourist returns home from Puri

The Dutch tourist, who was stuck in Puri for over a month after he was allegedly looted of his valuables by a cab driver, has returned home. The victim Anthony Van Arkel went to Nagpur on Thursday; and from there, he would catch a flight to the Netherlands on Friday morning. The district administration reportedly made all the arrangements for his return. The administration has assured Arkel to courier all his stolen belongings to him and transfer the money that was stolen from him. As per reports, Arkel was looted by the taxi driver during his visit to the pilgrim town in January. The accused allegedly decamped with cash worth Rs 6 lakh, a diamond ring and a camera. Arkel was rendered penniless ny the theft. After his police complaint, the district administration put him at a shelter home, Niladri Nilay. However, after around a month of stay, he contacted the media and narrated his ordeal. He pleaded to the administration to nab the thief and help him return home, following which he was shifted to the OTDC Pantha Nivas in Puri for better accommodation. The accused driver Sagar Mallik was finally apprehended by police from outside the State. He is currently being interrogated by police after the victim identified him in a TI parade.
