  • | Saturday | 16th March, 2024

The villagers of Madhipali, on the outskirts of Balangir town, got a sigh of relief on Wednesday night after a monkey which had unleashed a reign of terror since Tuesday, was captured by the Forest Department. The monkey attacked as many as 10 persons leaving a few injured, including a woman whose condition was serious.     Lilabati Patel (80) of Madhiapali was returning home after attending a marriage reception party on Tuesday night when she was attacked by the monkey. She sustained injuries in her neck and other parts and immediately was rushed to the Bhimbhoi MCH for treatment. Her condition was stable. Similarly, another woman of the village was seriously injured on Wednesday night. As the situation had turned serious, the villagers had to guard their houses with Lathis and sticks.   Balangir Forest Department, after getting complaints about the monkey menace, rushed its team with a net to capture the monkey. However, it was not an easy task as the simian kept eluding them by jumping from tree to tree. Finally, they managed to tranquilize the monkey and capture it safely on Wednesday night.   The Forest officials suspect that the monkey was suffering from any disease as a result of which it was behaving abnormally.
