SC stays annulment of Moquim’s election

  • | Tuesday | 19th March, 2024

In a major sigh of relief for Congress leader Mohammed Moquim, the Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Orissa High Courts order of annulling his election as the Cuttack-Barabati MLA.   Admitting Moquims petition, the apex court also served notice to BJD leader Debashish Samantaray, who had filed a case in the High Court seeking disqualification of Moquim alleging that he had suppressed facts with respect to the criminal cases pending against him while filing his poll affidavit.   Samantaray had further alleged that Moquim did not disclose correct facts about his assets and liabilities.   Worth mentioning, Samantaray had lost to Moquim in the Cuttack-Barabati Assembly constituency in the 2019 polls.
