BMC removes encroachments in special drive

In a sweeping operation, the  Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday removed illegal encroachments and rounded up dozens of stray animals from public spaces and roads in the state capital. Acting on complaints from the CM Helpline and routine patrols, enforcement squads seized stalls, tables, stools and other unauthorised setups from pavements and corridors. Vendors had placed goods illegally outside shops or on footpaths. The anti-encroachment drive was conducted under the direction of Commissioner Harendra Narayan. It covered New Market, MP Nagar, Bairagarh, Kolar, Royal Market and other areas notorious for obstructions. In all, 9 pushcarts, 5 wooden planks, 3 tables, 20 stools, 3 fibre chairs and 2 plastic sheets were confiscated. Vendors were warned against repeat violations. Simultaneously, the corporations stray animal control team captured 25 free-roaming cattle, sending them to a Kanji House. Twenty others were relocated to gaushalas, and one injured animal was taken to a shelter. Areas covered included Bairagarh, Lalghati, Airport Road, Kamla Park, Habibganj and BHEL. The civic bodys hanka party was deployed to drive the animals off busy streets. Officials have urged residents to refrain from encroachments or abandoning livestock, warning that stricter action will follow in case of repeat offences.
