Candidates hold rallies in Bhubaneswar campuses to show off their strength

BHUBANESWAR: Campuses of the colleges and universities in the city are geared up for the fast approaching Students' Union elections to be held on September 23. They apply different tricks during poll campaigns to woo their voters.As a part of the campaign, candidates of the Utkal University and the Ramadevi Women's University organised rallies in their campuses to show off their strength before filing of nominations on September 16.Candidates supported by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged Triranga rally in Ramadevi Women's University and D R Nayapalli College to boycott Chinese products and create nationalism among the students of their institution. President candidate Tanmayee Hota took the lead of the rally in the campus."We organized the rally in front of the university and inside the campus to request the students to boycott Chinese products in India. We staged the rally with a 65-metre-long cloth with tri-colour print on it. It is also a part of our election campaign," she said.A similar campaign was seen at D R Nayapalli College here led by president candidate Sushil Kumar Mohapatra. Candidates with their supporters took out a procession with a 50-metre-long tri-colour cloth in the premises of the institution to appeal the students and public to support Indian Army, Mohapatra added.To counter the ABVP sponsored rally, candidates supported by Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) conducted a rally in the campus to show off their strength. President candidate Soubhagya Soumyashree Samal addressed the rally of the students to work unitedly for a thumping victory in the election.In Utkal University, candidates supported by the BCJD conducted a procession in the campus and staged a rally at the university canteen to give a signal to their opponents about their increasing popularity. Several students attended the rally, said president candidate Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra."We will definitely win the polls because more than half of the university students are with us. This rally proves that we are ahead of our rivals," he added.But his rival candidates denied the claim of Mohapatra and said he may not get majority in the polls.
