State to come up with new Odisha Export Policy 2017 soon

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced that the state government will soon come up with a new Odisha Export Policy-2017 to boost export from the state. The value of exports between 2015-16 and 2016-17 has registered a phenomenal growth of 114% to Rs 40,872 crore. "I complement all exporters for achieving this extraordinary feat," Naveen said.Sources said, Odisha jumped five slots forward from 13th position to 9th position among the top exporting state of India. Among others MSME minister Prafulla Samal and director of ministry of commerce Praveen Bonigala were present on the occasion. However, there is huge potential for labour intensive sectors like silver and gold filigree, handicrafts, textiles, rubber, organic spices and so on.

"Besides, to ensure ease of doing business to the exporters we are in the process of organising all export related organisations under a single roof," said Naveen, at a workshop on export strategy of Odisha.He said, the export potential of Odisha, which was merely Rs 563 crore in 2001-02, had increased 34 times to Rs 19,875 crore in 2015-16. The value of exports between 2015-16 and 2016-17 has registered a phenomenal growth of 114% to Rs 40,872 crore. "I complement all exporters for achieving this extraordinary feat," Naveen said.Sources said, Odisha jumped five slots forward from 13th position to 9th position among the top exporting state of India. "With the target of Rs one lakh crore export by 2025, the state has aimed to make its entry into the top three states in exports," said secretary micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMS) department, L N Gupta.Iron, steel and aluminium has the lion's share in state's exports followed by marine products, handicrafts and handloom, IT and IT enabled services and organic chemicals. However, there is huge potential for labour intensive sectors like silver and gold filigree, handicrafts, textiles, rubber, organic spices and so on."To achieve the ambitious target of export Odisha has to give emphasis on trade enabling environment and ecosystem, encourage value addition, adhere to quality standards, capacity building and promotion of entrepreneurship," said Ajay Sahai, director general and CEO of The Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO).Nineteen exporters of the state felicitated on the occasion for their outstanding performance where Nalco awarded best exporters award being the only organisation to have exported products of highest export turnover in terms of value. Among others MSME minister Prafulla Samal and director of ministry of commerce Praveen Bonigala were present on the occasion.
