Police urge Engg Dept to instal iron grills on road dividers

With increasing deaths in road mishaps, the Chandigarh Traffic Police haVE asked the UT Engineering Department to instal iron grills on road dividers. The iron grills will also prevent stray animals from coming in front of motorists. The SSP stressed the need to install iron grills to thwart pedestrians from crossing busy roads from the points other than zebra crossings. Mukesh Anand, Special Secretary, Engineering Department, said the project will help check road accidents. The SSP also mentioned the figure of the pedestrians killed in road mishaps in the letter.

Sources said the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic, had raised the issue in a letter to the department, recommending for the installation of strong iron grills on all V-1 , V-2 and V-3 roads of the city. The SSP also mentioned the figure of the pedestrians killed in road mishaps in the letter. The SSP stressed the need to install iron grills to thwart pedestrians from crossing busy roads from the points other than zebra crossings. The iron grills will also prevent stray animals from coming in front of motorists. The SSP stated the result of the grills installed between Sectors 17 and 22 and on Madhya Marg was positive.The UT Engineering Department has started the work to instal traffic lights at three more roundabouts on Madhya Marg. These roundabouts are situated between the Housing Board chowk and the PGI. The Administration is replicating the model of the roundabout of the sector 26, which was the first cyclist-friendly roundabout constructed in 2016. Separate paths for cycles and rickshaws will also created. Mukesh Anand, Special Secretary, Engineering Department, said the project will help check road accidents.
