Kin say he was mentally disturbed; wife claims drugs the root cause Patiala, July 11 A day after his wife registered a case of violence, a man committed suicide on late Tuesday night. The deceased, Prabhjot Singh is a resident of Ganga Vihar Colony, ended his life, reportedly, out of fear of being implicated by his wife, under Sections 323 and 324 of the IPC. However, parents of the deceased did not file any complaint against his wife, and said that their son was mentally disturbed since long, said the city police. On Monday Night, the deceased’s wife, Simran Kaur, filed a complaint of physical violence against her husband. However, later on, she got herself admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Simaran alleged that her husband had physically abused her when she refused to give him money. The wife, reportedly, alleged that as her husband was short of money for drugs, therefore, he had approached her. Simran Kaur alleged in the FIR, that her husband was a drug addict; however, police denied the charges. Station House Officer Division -2, Jaspreet Singh, said, “We are unable to ascertain, at this point, whether he was a drug addict, but, surely, he was an alcoholic. We have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPc on behalf of the deceased’s parents. As per the police account, Prabhjot committed suicide on late Tuesday night. Prabhjot Singh was staying with his brother and parents at Ganga Vihar colony. The police further said the couple had an entangled relationship since their marriage in 2009.
