Rajan Bhatti, cop get 5 yrs in jail in escape case

The resident of Mustafabad Jattan village in Gurdaspur, Bhatti is wanted in 15 cases of murder, attempt to murder and rape. Harbans was accompanying Bhatti at the time when the latter managed to flee from the court premises. The court also impose fine of Rs 20,000 each on them.Three other accused have been acquitted in the case while one accused Poonam alias Dolly has been declared proclaimed offender (PO). Harbans Lal was accused of not giving the information of the same to police control room and his officers in time.Harbans was booked for negligence after a police team was sent to Punjab. While four FIRs were registered in Chandigarh, the rest are in Punjab.

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh district court has sent notorious criminal Rajan Bhatti , son of a head constable with the Punjab Police, to five years in jail after finding him guilty of escaping from the district courts while being produced for a hearing.Besides Bhatti, head constable Harbans Lal has also been awarded five-year imprisonment for being negligent on duty. Harbans was accompanying Bhatti at the time when the latter managed to flee from the court premises. The court also impose fine of Rs 20,000 each on them.Three other accused have been acquitted in the case while one accused Poonam alias Dolly has been declared proclaimed offender (PO). Those acquitted have been identified as Sunny Sharma, Shubham and Rajbir Singh.Bhatti is stated to be an habitual absconder and had absconded several times from court premises. Currently he is undergoing 5-year imprisonment in an attempt to murder case and as per order, the jail term in escape case would start after he completes his sentence in the earlier case.It was in October 2016 when all accused were booked under sections 222 (intentional omission to apprehend on the part of public servant bound to apprehend person under sentence or lawfully committed. ), 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension ), 225B (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension, or escape or rescue in cases not otherwise provided for) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy)of the IPC.As per police compliant, Bhatti was to be presented in the court for a hearing in a rape case. After the hearing, the head constable took him to have tea in the area behind the advocates' chambers. Bhatti had then pushed Harbans Lal and climbed the rear wall of the courts complex and fled in a car which was waiting for him outside.Bhatti then pushed Harbans and climbed the rear wall of the court complex and fled in a car that was waiting for him there. As per information, this was not the first time that a criminal had fled while the said cop was on duty.Bhatti has multiple cases registered against him in Punjab and Chandigarh, including that of rape and murder. He had also fired upon a DSP when a team had gone to nab him.In three FIRs containing charges of rape, molestation and thrashing, he had reportedly left the women badly injured.
