Man gets life term for rape-murder

PANCHKULA: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a man hailing from Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh to life imprisonment and fined him Rs 20,000 for the rape and murder of a 10-year-old-girl more than two years back.On April 23, 2016, the victim's mother , who works as a maid and was residing at Rally village, Sector 12, Panchkula, had found the body of her daughter at her house. Two days later, police arrested 21-year-old labourer Amrish Kumar , who was a neighbour of the victim . He was caught from the Chandigarh railway station on the basis of his mobile tower location. Cops had maintained he was under the influence of liquor when he committed the crime.The incident had occurred between 11 am and 12 noon, when Kumar had come to his house to take a tent sheet to be used at a rally in Panchkula. He had liquor on way to his place. When he reached near the stairs of his room, he found the minor girl and raped her. For fear of getting caught, he smashed her head with a brick and fled, police said.
