MOHALI: Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal has suspended Zirakpur station house officer (SHO) inspector Pawan Kumar for allegedly overlooking the Supreme Court's orders in a land dispute case. The action comes following the intervention of the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking reply on action taken for contempt of the apex court's orders and an inquiry conducted by assistant superintendent of police Harmandeep Singh Hans. The SHO had ignored the orders of the Supreme Court which had ruled in favour of complainants Alamjit Singh Mann and Rashpal Singh in their land dispute with the wife of a retired IAS officer. The SHO was found negligent in handling the case and favouring the woman. The complainants had purchased the land from the wife of a former IAS officer in 2004Mann and Rashpal Singh said they had purchased the land from the woman in 2004 in Zirakpur. Necessary documentation was duly completed and before the land could be transferred to their names, Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (Puda) announced to acquire the land for some development purposes. The woman after learning that the land prices might shoot up refused to get the land registered in the name of the complainants, Mann alleged."We knocked the doors of the court and after nine years litigation, we won the case. But the woman approached district and sessions court in Mohali , where she lost. She further appealed in the high court, where too she lost in 2017. The high court ordered the registration in our favour. But the woman approached the Supreme Court. The top court also ruled in our favour and on August 13, by the orders of Supreme Court the land was registered in our favour and possession handed over to us," said Mann.Mann said, "Fearing that the woman may create trouble for us, we filed an application with the Zirakpur police alleging that the woman being influential will interfere in our land. But the woman countered our application and filed a complaint with police alleging that someone had grabbed her land and is plowing it. So, police came to our land and allegedly confiscated a tractor and detained four of our employees, including a security guard, for over eight hours at police station." "We moved the high court, alleging contempt of SC orders. The high court immediately issued notice of motion for reply to the Punjab government, DGP and Mohali SSP for action taken against contempt of SC's orders . The next hearing is slated for October 8."SSP Chahal could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
