Waste-to-energy plant being set up in Mohali: Punjab government to HC

The court also stressed the need for use of helmets in the Punjab districts and observed hardly anyone wears helmet in the state. The single bench was further informed that the four roads are being constructed at Nayagaon which would take care of the road connectivity in the area.

During the resumed hearing of a petition seeking implementation of the directions for removal of encroachments from roads — Chandigarh to Kansal and further Kansal to Kaimbwala — and setting up of the sewerage treatment plant, the single bench of Justice Amit Rawal asked the authorities to lift the waste in a time-bound manner from Nayagaon and also stressed the need to take steps for vacation of stay on sewage treatment plant (STP) at Nayagaon. On the issue of garbage disposal, the secretary of the local government, A Venu Prasad, told the court that at present the garbage from the area is taken to a disposal plant at Lalru but a waste-to-energy plant has been planned in Mohali and it will have a capacity of 500 metric tonnes per day. The single bench was further informed that the four roads are being constructed at Nayagaon which would take care of the road connectivity in the area. One of the roads will be completed by December 31, another by February 2019, tenders have been issued for another road and one has been already completed. Observing that there is a need for a complete ban on the plastic bans, the single bench while addressing the secretary of the local government also asked him to issue instructions in this regard to the municipalities.
