Panchkula: 31 cases of public drinking in 12 days

PANCHKULA: The police have started a special drive to curb consumption of liquor at public place, especially after dark. "Consuming liquor at public place is a common practice in Panchkula. "The drive against consuming liquor at public place will be carried out daily. "Four cases each at Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) and Raipur Rani police stations, three cases at Pinjore police station, one each at Chandimandir and Sector 14 police stations. We have complained about this many times but cops have completely failed to stop this," said members of a residents welfare association.

PANCHKULA: The police have started a special drive to curb consumption of liquor at public place, especially after dark. The move has come after the TOI highlighted the issue of liquor being consumed openly at public places and parking lots throughout the city.In just 12 days, starting December 1, the cops, under the drive, have registered as many as 31 cases across the city.Panchkula deputy commissioner of police Kamaldeep Goyal had called a meeting and directed all ACPs and SHOs of the Panchkula police department to carry out a special drive against consumption of liquor at public place in their respective areas.After receiving instructions from the DCP, the cops formed special teams and started looking for violators.As per the data received from the cops, as many as 18 cases have been registered at Sector 5 police station since December 1. "Four cases each at Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) and Raipur Rani police stations, three cases at Pinjore police station, one each at Chandimandir and Sector 14 police stations. We book violators under Sections 68-1-14 of Punjab Excise Act and 160 (punishment for committing affray) of the Indian Penal Code ," the cops said."The drive against consuming liquor at public place will be carried out daily. No violator will be spared and strict action as per law will be taken against them," DCP Goyal said."Consuming liquor at public place is a common practice in Panchkula. We have complained about this many times but cops have completely failed to stop this," said members of a residents welfare association.
